How did you start DJing? When did
you start? |
I started DJing about 5 years ago,
playing mainly trance and hard house. I got into it from a love
of dance music, and djing seemed the obvious choice to get in
amongst it and to start making my our sounds and mixes. |
How did you get your first gig and
where was it? |
My first paid gig in a club would
have been with the Sunset Project series of dance parties at
Gas. I entered a competition they were running and although
didn't win, made it to the finals and fortunately enough they
asked me back to play. |
What makes a good DJ? |
A love and passion of music above
all, followed in no particular order by technical skill, crowd
interaction, and generally having a good time. |
What makes you a good DJ? |
I think I play a variety of
different house music in the one set, which both educates and
pleases listeners. |
Who inspires you in the local
industry and why? |
I wouldn't say any specific people
inspire me, rather I learn from many other djs in terms of their
different skills and tracks. |
Who is the best DJ/artist in the
world and why? |
The best set I have ever listened
to live would have to be Frankie Knuckles. He's been there from
the beginning and really knows his stuff. |
What makes you different from other
DJs? |
According to others I have a unique
sound that most other Sydney DJs don’t play. |
Why do you DJ? |
I DJ because I love music and
creating my own sounds. I can educate people and share this
passion in music through DJing. |
What is your DJing goal? |
My DJing goal is to play music that
people enjoy and can dance to. Further down the track I would
like to get involved in producing and remixing tracks. |
What are your regular gigs at the
moment? |
- |
Do you have an Internet site /
Homepage? |
Yes.
http://www.nickvidal.com/
|
What is the best venue that you've
played at and what made it a good venue? |
Home nightclub Sydney on the main
floor. The sound system is just so
big there, as well as a dj set up I would never normally have
acces to, added to a full main floor and mezzanine would have to
make it a highlight of my DJing. |
What is the worst DJing moment that
you've had? |
Touch wood I haven't had that bad a
moment when DJing, although one venue I have played at didn't
have a monitor, so it made mixing quite difficult to get used
to, and as a result the first half hour or so there was many a
trainwreck. |
What is best venue you've been to
as a patron and what made it great? |
The best venue would be Tank. The
sound system is really clear, you can get up close to the dj and
see whats happening, or you can move away from the madness and
relax on a couch somewhere else in the club. |
How do you find new music? |
I'm subscribed to a few mailing
lists for record distributors, I listen to mixes online, & check
out record store charts. |
What are your fave tracks at the
moment? (top 5) |
(top 5) My all time favourite
tracks, in no particular order would have to be :
Dj Sneak - You can't hide from your bud
Armand Van Helden – You Don’t Know me
Pete Hellar – Big Love
Urban Jazz Naturals – How Can I (JT Donaldson remix)
Sade – By your side (lazy dog remix) |
What do you do when you're not
Djing? |
I would be at uni, cooking at home,
or out and about with friends. |
What is the most important thing
that you've ever done? |
Keep a positive outlook on things |
What does 'funky' mean to you? |
Funky to me means fresh, fun,
happening, groovy – the list goes on. |
