How did you
start DJing? When did you start? |
I guess like most dj's i was influenced by a passion for
music. When i found myself looking for more of it, week in week out, i had
to do something about it... |
How did you get your first gig and where was it? |
Clean and Serene at the burdekin, wicked party run by a
great bunch of guys. Jackster put a huge amount of trust in me and invited
me to do the warm up, fuck it was good. |
What makes a good DJ? |
I think a good dj knows their tracks inside out, its all
good and well to be a good beat-mixer, but when you can structure your
mixes perfectly, you are at another level. |
What makes you a good DJ? |
I think mostly just a fun attitude. When im enjoying
myself it shows, and rubs off onto the crowd. I love to rock a dancefloor. |
Who inspires you in the local industry and why? |
Hard question because i dont want to forget anyone. Namely
Matt Roberts, Illya, Shamus, Luna, Julian Jason. These guys just do what
they do with such ease. A bunch of people that know how to party. |
Who is the best DJ/artist in the world and why? |
I have alot of respect for kaskade, always coming up with
the goods. Joey youngman is a consistent producer aswell as Jacob London
and when he is not too smashed, derrick carter is amazing. |
What makes you different from other DJs? |
Generally my height. Unfortunately i was at the end of the
line when that shit was dished out. |
Why do you DJ? |
I love house music. Simple as that. |
What is your DJing goal? |
To get better and better really, and have fun doing it. |
Do you pre-determine the music before you play a set? |
Never, each dancefloor you play to will have different
tastes. I always take two record bags where ever i play to broaden my
range. The ability to read a crowd is fundamental. There will always be a
certain few tracks i know ill play,no matter what, simply because i love
them. |
What is the best venue that you've played at and what made
it a good venue? |
Playing KINK at the moment is always good. Great people to
work with, and each week the crowd is getting bigger. Must be one of the
best looking easy going crowds in Sydney too. |
What is the worst DJing moment that you've had? |
Off chops at a house party, went to grab a beer and forgot
what i was
doing...i also forgot it was me that was meant to be mixing, after the
record finished, someone reminded me that i missed the mix.. Wont forget
that in a hurry. |
What is best venue you've been to as a patron and what
made it great?
|
Fly @ the globe, in particular Fly's 1st birthday and
Final Fly with
Kaskade. The crowd there always seemed to have so much energy, Hows this,
on Globes last night, the final record was played at 11am- to a still
packed dancefloor. Enough said. |
How do you find new music? |
Mostly shopping locally, theres a few good sites over the
net aswell. |
What are your fave tracks at the moment?
|
1. Pharell Williams & Jay z - Frontin' (Frantz Kromers
unreleased mixes)
2. GusGus - David (Tim deluxe mix)
3. Freestylers - Push
4. Inland Knights - Hands up ep
5. Dope and Dusted - Are you jealous (Toby Neal mix) |
What do you do when you're not Djing?
|
I work a full time job and spend a fair bit of time with
friends - and
looking for records... Its an addictive and expensive hobby. |
What is the most important thing that you've ever done?
|
Broad question.... The most important thing ive ever done
is also the most stupid, leaving uni. |
What does 'funky' mean to you? |
A whole lotta things. Mostly something that can put a
smile on your face and make you move without realising. The funk is
everything. |
Kaskade, David Guetta,
Cassius, Dj Falcon, Spencer Parker and Coloursound are just a few of
the names that Brenden has played with in his short career so far -
A crazy, always up for it attitude has been able to ensure that
where ever Brenden Fing plays, he has been able to pull a crowd.
Early influences such as Derrick Carter and Joey Youngman are what
took Brenden behind the turntables, although you're likely to see
him on the dance floor just as much as he is behind the decks.
At only 21 and in only 1 short year Brenden has been able to
establish his place in the strong Sydney house music scene - playing
a variety of sounds from deep, soulful, vocal and funky house to
electro, and even breaks on occasion. Holding down a monthly
residency at Kink, weekly residency at Le panic, guest spots at Yu
and Sublime, Brenden is definitely a name to get used to.
