The Willing’s Oath
(as

Who will this day die and chance himself to anonymity Yet have justice done and be known only unto it? I. Who will this day place as sacrifice that which is his before his fellow, And yet have the after unknown to him? I. By what authority do you cast yourself into the abyss and say; is redemption or reward one’s venture? By my free will and want of nothing save the need of my fellow’s deliverance. And should you bleed, are you afraid? No. You seek a soldier’s death; that he fight without hope to survive yet seek victory? It is my desire. How may you countenance your life for that of another that both are of value? A yearning strikes me that seeks forge another’s freedom. Save for that I am but a vessel. So it is from love that should drip the blood of yours? That from love should drip the blood of mine. You seek life so far only as to strike that blow for freedom of another? Indeed I should rather my departure than his. Why? My freedom is nothing when I might divest him of his chains should chance be apparent or made. Think not that I will fritter for I will be made whole in death for the deliverance of an innocent: That which I long for, I wait; and suffer do I not for the wait’s fulfilment. And should opportunity be denied thee, desire nulled for want of chance? Let the foam drip from my horse’s bit and yet further only wait shall I. For I will not champ as my horse, but be still and seek the angels’ word and so go forth. So you will wait still, mustered and need be alone die for your fellow? At the word, I will obey.
